hat and hut
autumn term 2007 - professor a. spiro, assistant v. ly

with oliver schelker

on the very first day of construction class, we were given a material and asked to build a hat out of it. oliver and i were given long wooden sticks. we wanted to keep the properties inherent in the material and decided to use them in their full length. when stored the hat would lie flat on the table and unfold when put on. we called the creation sonnenskelett

later in that term, we had to design a hut based on someone elses hat. we kept the material of the hat and the overall shape, but had to find a way to construct the hut more stabely. these were our first construction plans, and it was the first time we used the laser for model making.
