giacometti museum
autumn term 2010 - professor j. ll. mateo, assistant i. concheiro

Layout

Both parts are connected to a space outside on the upper level of the building. The layout of these terrasses is based on the wonderful views of the landscape and the mountain ranges. In this way the building is opening up to the landscape. The outside areas and the elevator connect the different parts of the museum and open alternative routes through the museum. All outside areas can be used for sculpture display.

Construction

The rooms differ in height and are interlocking in a way that allows for flat floor plates. This conglomerate is coated with a thick concrete hull insulated on the inside. The interior partitions are in a lighter construction, floor plates are anchored back into the outside wall where neccessary. On the outside the conctrete has a rough surface formed with corrugated sheeting. On the inside the texture is smooth.
